Further Genre Research
since we chose the genre 'horror', we researched into other horror films. by analysing these different movies we were able to see the different techniques used to create the perfect suspense. from this we were also able to see what we could have added in our movie to improve it. here is a list of the classic techniques used in horror films:
- phonecalls
- weather (rainy)
- background sounds: music (low fi or high tempo), objects smashed, tv, dead phone line

Chosen Location
Possible Location 1
us, which we were taking into
consideration, as it would best meet our agreement.
Possible Location 2
evaluation for preliminary exercise
For our preliminary exercise the task was to film and edit a charater opening a door and sitting opposite another charater where they will both exchange a few lines. However the plot of this small scene was up to us, in our group we all came up with different ideas to use as the plot of our story, however eventually we all decided on one. The plot we chose was about a terrorist who is in the country illegally and is engaged to a women, who does not know that he is only using her to stay in the country. In this short clip, you will see the terrorist held in custody and he will receive a visit from his fiance where the truth is revealed. Before we started to film we had to think about what props and costumes we would be using, we also had to agree on two charaters, we decided to use two people from our own group to be the actors. We then drew up a storyboard an wrote the script. After completeing all of this we started to film our story, once completed we edited what had been filmed, by adding what needed to be added and cuting what needed to be cut.

DeCiSiOn MakInG...
Horror is an ancient art form. We have tried to terrify each other with tales which trigger the less logical parts of our imaginations for as long as we've told stories. From the ballads of the ancient world to modern urban myths, audiences willingly offer themselves up to sadistic storytellers to be scared witless, and they are happy to pay for the privilege. do we derive basic thrills from triggering the rush of adrenalin which fear brings, or do horror stories serve a wider moral purpose?
Horror movies have long served both purposes. They deliver thrills by the hearseload, as well as telling us stories of the dark, forbidden side of life. The best way to study and appreciate horror films is, of course, to watch them. However, it is also important to have some sense of a film's context. this is one of our main reasons for why we chose to shoot this particular film.
After days of talking about which genre we were all satisfied with, myself and my group came up with a finalised decision; which was infact, we wanted to base our movie on a TRUE story, with a horrific genre. Only about a month before this decision making, a friend of ours shared personal scenario that took place in her house. As it happens, she experienced a nightmare which came true the very next day.
